5 Pregnancy Signs To Lookout For That Will Tell You To Call The Doctor

Pregnancy is a delicate time in a woman's life. Every signal, every problem, every visit to the baby scan clinic holds a lot of meaning and lets you know the current situation in your pregnancy. So, just like you wait for the first kick of your baby's, you should also keep a lookout for any sign that screams trouble. These signs are given to warn you about any complications so that you can call the doctor immediately. Take a look at what these signs are.

Bleeding

This is probably the scariest sign in pregnancy. We always assume miscarriage when it starts to bleed. But not all the time the cause is miscarriage. There are several other reasons like placenta Previa which occurs during the implantation, preterm labour, uterine rupture, infection, etc. Depending on the degree of bleeding, it becomes a matter of concern. But it is always advised to consult your doctor no matter how light the situation is.

Abdominal Pain

If things are normal in your pregnancy, then there should not be any abdominal pain unless you reach the 37 weeks of your pregnancy. Other than that if you are having abdominal pain, call your doctor immediately. There are several instances when you might feel pain. These are during preterm labour, miscarriage, Braxton-Hicks contractions, Placental abruption, Ectopic pregnancy, Infections, Uterine rupture, Constipation, and Round ligament pain. You can visit the baby scan clinic to know the reason of your abdominal pains. Do not ignore them in any case.

Leaking

Water breaking is a common term we use to define that the baby is on its way. You are supposed to rush to the hospital as soon as your water breaks. This is nothing but the amniotic fluid that works as a cushion to help protect the baby during pregnancy. It is also important for the baby's lung maturity. But if this water breaks before your term, then it is something to be concerned about. It could mean that the baby is coming early. Sometimes, it can also be an indication of infection. But whether it's amniotic fluid or any other discharge, call your doctor to know which is normal and which is not. Several tests determine whether your water has truly broken or if there are any other complications.

A Decrease In Movement

Counting your baby's kicks is a must-do activity in your pregnancy. When you are 24 weeks pregnant, you will be encouraged to count the kicks of your baby regularly. It helps to determine whether your baby is doing fine or not. This should be done at the same time every day. Pick the time when you think is convenient and when your baby moves the most. Count the number of moves and the time taken for the baby to move. Normally, a baby should move ten times in two hours. You can stop counting as long as the baby has moved ten times. If somehow this movement decreases, call your doctor. The reason could be if somehow your baby becomes sick or any other complication arises.

Headache Or Blurry Vision

This is another concerning sign you need to look out for. Headaches or blurry vision are the sign for preeclampsia, a life-threatening complication for both the mother and the baby. It is more common at the end of the pregnancy or after you have passed 20 weeks of pregnancy. If your blood pressure is elevated, you will be asked to do a urine test to know whether you have preeclampsia. It can also lead to seizure or stroke. As blood pressure rises, the blood and oxygen supply for the baby gets cut off which is dangerous for the baby. So, headaches or blurry vision, two days in a row is the signal to call the doctor.
All these signs should not appear in a normal pregnancy which can be determined easily during your visits to Reading baby scan clinic. Consult your doctor otherwise as soon as possible.
